Now before we move on to other sections of this tutorial, I want to pause and demonstrate another tool that you use to establish contrast, that I never, ever use all by itself but you are going to find it one day and you are going to say to yourself why didn't he talk about that? So here we are going to talk about, alright now this is called the auto contrast adjustment. The only way that works is to select the background level; it won't work on an adjustment layer. So you just go to the background layer, and you go up to image - adjustments and you will see these three auto adjustments here. One of which is auto contrast, well let us click on it and see what happens. I mean it looks a little better but just not enough, so that is the auto contrast button. There are other automatic controls as well, auto levels, no they are not making it, and then of course, auto color, puts a green tone on everything that I have to adjust out. But those three auto controls all by themselves on this particular image do not work. I have never seen these work on an individual basis very effectively at all, so try to stay away from these as much as you can because they just don't do that much. They are not going to give you the result you are looking for.
