Using Bridge / Customizing Your Workspace

Subtitles of the Movie

We've already seen in another move that Bridge has a variety of default workspaces that you can use, but in all likelihood, you may find that none are perfect for you. For example, for most of my work I like to see a filmstrip view of my content or thumbnails and a large preview. So I could opt to use the Preview Workspace as you see right now or I could opt for the Filmstrip Workspace but truthfully, neither of these are perfect for me. If I use the Filmstrip, then any vertical images that I choose to show have less real estate available to show them so that they're shown smaller. So for that reason, Preview comes closer. But my personal style is that I'm used to seeing the list of content on the right, rather than on the left. I can adjust that. I'm going to click on the Content Tab and move it over here to this panel or pod and click on Preview an put it over here. Now, the problem obviously is that my preview is very small. So I'll click on the Divider Bar here and make my Content Panel small and my Preview Panel large. For my personal taste, I like this better. I also tend to like to see keywords and metadata at a glance. So I'm going to want to toggle them on. But having them over here on the right is not helpful to me. I don't like that at all. So I'm going to click on Keywords, the tab, and put it down here with Filter and Collections. And I'm going to take the Metadata Tab and drag it over here on top. If I wanted to see the folders, I'll click on that tab to bring it forward. Most of the time I want the metadata available and similarly, I can click on the different tabs to bring whichever one forward that I need at the moment. To save this new workspace, come up here to Window, Workspace, New Workspace and a dialog will appear in which you name your new workspace. Be sure to give it a name that will have some meaning for you if you think that you might create more than one workspace, such as Ellen Edit. You can opt to save the window location as part of your workspace, as well as the sort order. And then click Save. Your new workspace will appear up here in the icons and will be available for you there, as well as from Window, Workspace, whenever you want to access that particular workspace. So if you change to a different workspace, such as Light Table, to briefly see all of your images and sometimes that's handy, then you simply come back to your preferred workspace and you're ready to go. Most people find that they work most efficiently by creating a workspace that's comfortable and intuitive for them.
