Basics / Monitor Calibration
Subtitles of the Movie
Monitor calibration is a subject that can not be ignored either. You'll drive yourself crazy trying to match your print output if your monitor is not calibrated. First, buy the best LCD or LED Monitor you can afford. Then buy a monitor calibration software-hardware package to do proper calibration. That'll give you an image on the screen that more closely matches the output on the printer. Now, if money is no object and you want the absolute best, you might try this monitor from NEC. Now, of course there are other manufacturers, but NEC has been in the monitor business a long time and many professionals use them. This particular model selling for an estimated 3200 dollars will reproduce 107 percent of the Adobe RGB gamut. That is quite an accomplishment for a monitor; absolutely ridiculously good. It's obviously very high end and if you've got money to burn, this is your monitor. But even with the most expensive monitors, they all have to be calibrated because if you don't calibrate them, you're going to just drive around in circles trying to get everything coordinated with your print output and you'll waste a lot of money and ink and paper. Now, one of the better ways to do that is with third-party software-hardware packages like Spider. This is a very popular software-hardware package. A lot of people use it and it does great results. Now, this mid-level package sells for about 169 dollars and is money well spent to insure you have monitor color that matches your printer output. Monitor calibration is very important if you want good print output and it's a subject that goes beyond the scope of this particular tutorial. Obviously, again, you can do more research on this subject on the Internet, but by all means, don't ignore monitor calibration.
