Lighting effects, which is located under our filter menu, can help you to drastically change the look and feel of your images. As you see here I have already gone ahead and converted this guy for smart filters by going to filter and changing this to convert for smart filters which of course is ghosted out because I have already performed the operation. Now what I can do is go on down to the render section and choose lighting effects from the list. A dialog box appears and we are presented with a preview on the left hand side here, our light source and some handles that allow us to control that light source. We can also add lights and delete lights to this object or scene. We can also change the style of the light from default to one of many different lights. For example we have three down, we have two o'clock spotlight, we have blue omni, and tons of other options in this list. So I'm going to put this back on blue omni for now. I can also change the light to directional, spotlight and back to omni. I can turn that light on or off by clicking here and I can change the intensity to a negative intensity all the way to full intensity by using this slider here. I can also change the color by clicking on the swatch. Now I can also change the properties, I can have the light as shiny or a more matte. I can also change the material from plastic to metallic by using the sliders, move that back over there. I can over, over expose this and I can under expose this light. I can also change the ambiance of that light to positive to negative. I can also use this swatch here to change the ambient color so let me go ahead and try something like a green here. And I can increase the ambiance of that scene or I can decrease the ambiance of that. Also what I can do is use a texture channel which is very handy when you want to apply a texture into this scene which we'll get back to in just a moment. Now let's talk about how to actually manipulate this light. I think I'll go back to the default light for now just so I can show you how to use these handles. I can grab these handles and move my mouse down or up to rotate the light. I can click on this little guy here to change the light source itself and I can pull the lights in and I can pull it out to increase and decrease the intensity of said light. I'm gonna move this right down here and I'm gonna change the color of this light to a blue again or a greenish color and what I can do is I can add another light by clicking on this light bulb and dragging it into the scene like so, and I can rotate this light and move it around, do whatever I want to so I can make some other lights in the background maybe like an office or something like that she's in, so I can rotate this light as well, move it down, I can delete the lights by simply grabbing it and dragging it to the garbage. And once I am happy with this I can go ahead and accept this by clicking ok. So now I have this scene where it looks like she is talking on her microphone and someone is approaching from a distance. And once again because it's a smart filter I can turn this effect completely off or I can double click to change the lighting effects all together. So you have a lot of options when it comes to using smart filters. Let me go ahead and undo that. It's pretty cool actually. Now let's talk about that texture, I am going to now create a new channel here and what I am gonna do is in this channel going to apply a gradient and I'm also going to add a texture to this gradient. I'm going to add just this first filter in the texturizer by default and as you see this is gonna be the texture so I'll click OK. And now I'm going to go back to my composite here and return to my layers and show you that I can go back to the lighting effects and when it says texture down here I can choose the texture channel that I selected which is this alpha one and you'll notice that, that texture is now applied to this uh scene. So you can really have a good time with the lighting effects and you change all the parameters to find a way to change the entire mood of a scene. And don't forget if you want the most control make sure you make a smart filter object so you can turn some of these effects off and you can change the way they work just in case you're not happy with them.
