Another type of pen tool that you can use is called the freeform pen tool and that is this pen tool: it's the pen with a little path next to it. And this is a great little tool - allows you to actually create a path by simply drawing. And there are two different modes that you can choose from, magnetic mode or non-magnetic mode. And I'll just choose the non-magnetic mode, and you can see that I can simply draw like a lasso tool, and pass back over the end of the path here and let go - and it's immediately created a path for me. I'm going to throw that path away and choose the magnetic option. And when you choose a magnetic option, notice how my cursor changes: it puts this cross-hair inside the circle, and what the magnetic freeform pen will attempt to do is to create a path based on some kind of contrast in my image. So I'm just going to click to start and just pass over the edge of my apple. I'm not even pressing down on my mouse button and you can see its doing a pretty good job except it couldn't quite deal with the shadow at the bottom of my apple, so I might have to go back and edit that. And notice that it's adding anchor points as it goes along. And if you need to add an anchor point, you can always click to add an anchor point to help out the magnetic feature. So I'll click to finish that path, and I can see that it did a pretty good job but I might need to edit some of these points. So I'll go back to my direct selection tool, and try to clean up this path a little bit.
