Another way you can use Photoshop's type tools is creating a type mask, and that's one of these two tools right here. I'll just choose the horizontal type mask tool. Click in your document and it will slightly colorize it, so that it's a little bit easier for you to see the text that you will be typing in. And the point of this is that it will eventually generate a selection for you to do with what you will based on some type that you type in. And when you are happy with the text, all I need to do is click the check in the type options palette, and Photoshop has delivered to me a mask based on that text as a selection.
