This snail is definitely missing its superhero glow, so I need to add a glow. So what I am going to do is open up my snail and cow set here, and select the snail and copy it to create a custom manual glow. I could choose to create a glow by using one of the effects, but then I really can't edit that in a custom way. And I like to edit my glows by adding layer masks and editing out areas that I want to be transparent. So here's my exact copy of the snail. I'm just going to bring up my color palette, or another way I might get a nice yellow is just to hold the option key down and click on a color. That looks pretty good. I think I will increase the saturation of this color. And with this color selected and my snail layer selected (or the copy of), choose edit menu>fill. And I'm going to fill with the foreground color, but I'm going to choose preserve transparency. So only where there is pixel data on this layer will be filled, and that will of course will be the snail. Well we can't see any real difference, because my other snail is in front of it. So I'm going to have to blur that layer a bit to make some of the pixels come out from behind the snail. And that looks pretty good. But I see that my glow is actually competing with the shadow. So I'm going to add another layer mask by clicking on the layer mask icon at the bottom of the layers palette, and making sure I'm editing my mask. And you know you are editing your mask when this little icon is a mask icon, not the paintbrush icon. So if I click on the RGB, I get the paintbrush icon. If I click on the mask, mask icon. Also, whatever is selected has a black bounding box around that particular thumbnail. So with my brush tool, I just going to paint back some of the glow on the shadow.
