Well, you may have noticed that I have added my dandelion flower to this image and colorized it slightly. And I have done that to show you one of the powerful features of working with guides and grids, and that is the snap to feature. We can enable Photoshop to snap items to guide and grid lines, by making sure that snap is enabled, and now I'm going to just turn on my grid. And now whenever I position this item, it will snap its edge or its center origin directly to a grid co-ordinate. So you can see that if it doesn't quite line up, one of these items will snap so I can have my edge of my items on the sliding layers snap right to a grid line, or I can snap the center point of this layer to a guide or grid line. Go ahead and make a new empty layer, and show you that sometimes this feature can get in the way if you forget it's enabled. So I chose my paintbrush here and I am going to go ahead and paint and notice how my paintbrush is reacting. It is too snapping to the grid line. So if you want to disable that effect, I'm going to command + 'Z' that, I can still have my grid on my document. But I can disable the snap feature, by going down to the view menu and making sure that snap is disabled. And now of course I can paint freely wherever I wish even though I'm seeing my grid. And if I go and choose the layer with the flower on it. I can then position it anywhere I want without it having to snap to a grid co-ordinate. And similar to having items snap to grids, we can also have items snap directly to guides as well. So notice I'm showing only guides and not the grids, and I'm going to enable the snap feature. And now notice that my flower when it gets near to a guide, it just snaps right to it.
