Similar to adding custom guides, we can invoke Photoshop's grid option. Under the view menu>show grid, Photoshop will overlay our image with this grid, and we can use this as a way to precisely position different elements on other layers. We can program our grid options under the preferences - edit menu>preferences>guides and grid - brings up that section of the preferences. And we can choose what color we want our grid and it helps to have your grid to be a different color than your guides. Also the line style but most importantly, how many grid lines per inch or whatever your measurement unit de jour is, as well as the sub-division. So I'm going to stick with one grid line every inch, and 4 sub-divisions. And when you are using grids, you might want to use the snap feature. And I'll go down to snap to, and you can see that we can have various items, layer items and different tools snap to grid lines as well as guides. Sometimes this can get in the way of Photoshop, if it's behaving strangely. I'm going to go ahead and hide my guides just to show you how you might use this grid feature. For instance if I wanted to make a rectangular selection, I could have it snap or my grids. And notice now when I drag it out if it gets close to a grid line, it will snap right to it. And to the same extent, I could also show my guides again if I drag out new guides. These too will snap right to a grid co-ordinate.
