Notice that at the top of my layers palette of course I have my opacity slider, which affects the opacity of any pixels on this layer. Well, there is another slider underneath it called fill, and if you go ahead and edit the fill value, it will essentially look just like you are editing the opacity. But the fill slider really works when you have an effect or multiple effects attached to this layer. So I'm going to go ahead and add a couple of effects to my logo here. I'll add a drop shadow by going to the effects button at the bottom of layers palette. And drag this out of the way so I can edit my drop shadow a bit. And I'll dial back the opacity, and I'll also add a bevel by clicking on the bevel and emboss section of the layer style, and I think I'll increase the bevel size a bit. And make it a little bit more dramatic, and I'll say ok to that. And now you can see that the styles or the special effects have been added to my logo. Well one of the options now is I can turn down the fill of this layer. And see what is happening here is that the, the pixel values on this layer are beginning to disappear, becoming more transparent but the effects associated with it are not. So I can turn my fill all the way down to zero, and what is left is the effect attached to the pixels on this layer. So that's how you can use the fill slider to create a type of water marking that you might want to add to an image. Or just create this cool kind of effect.
