Well, here we are at the end of InDesign CS5, the Beginners tutorial. There's an awful lot of information there but yet we've just scratched the surface. InDesign is such a huge program that just gets bigger with every iteration. But let's just recap what we've covered here. We've covered basic navigation and the Interface. The Page Setup and Master Pages we've done so you know how to set up your pages and add more pages as you go along and then create Master Pages so that you can have things repeating in every page. We've taken a look at the Drawing Tools. Now InDesign CS5 is no Illustrator but it's got a basic set of drawing tools which are very useful for some simple things that you do in your documents. Then we get into selection and working with objects. These objects can be Text Frames or Graphic Frames. We've looked at how to manipulate them, how to move them about the page and how to align them. These are the basics of working in InDesign and becoming efficient. Text Frames and Formatting; text of course is what InDesign's all about. It's all about putting text together. You can use Illustrator to draw. You can use Photoshop to manipulate your photographs but everything funnels through InDesign for your final document and when we took a look at basic introduction to Styles, Text Styles and Object Styles, that is really the par of InDesign and in the Advanced tutorial we get into Advanced Styles. That is really taking the styles to another level. Once you do this with the styles, that is where you become efficient. That's where a good designer can take two hours to do something that somebody else would be struggling to take five or six hours, because of the use of styles. I can't emphasize that so much. It really is the basis of efficiency. We'll take a look at long documents and collaboration, Layers, Wffects. We did touch on Drop Shadows briefly but we'll take a look at the whole set of Effects which are Photoshop-like effects that you can apply directly in InDesign. We'll look at tables. InDesign has very powerful table set and we'll take a look at those. Those also come with styles that you can use. There's lots of little things like Snippets and Libraries to make your workflow more efficient but the one that I really like, new to InDesign CS5, is Interactivity. It was in previous versions but they've beefed it up so much more now and it still needs a little bit of work. I'll be telling you some of the pitfalls of the interactivity features but the ability to create simple Flash documents for presentations or Web is really great. So I hope you'll join me in the Advanced Tutorial and you'll become an expert at InDesign.
