We will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on May 20th, 2013 at 02:00 GMT.
Following on from the previous movie we're going to go through some more Preferences. And to recap, if you're on a PC go to the Edit Menu. Preferences are down at the bottom here. On the Mac you go to the InDesign Menu and this time we're going to look at Interface. A lot of Options in here. First is Tool Tips. Now you'll notice when I hover the mouse over any of the tools here we have a little helper telling us what it's about. You can turn them off to None or turn it to Normal. That's kind of a slower speed, or keep them at Fast. I'll just hit None. They'll still show up here but when I click on OK then they're gone, they don't show up anymore. I like them on, especially for these tutorials here so I'm going to turn them back and have them come on Fast because we do use them quite a bit as we go through here. The next Option is Show Thumbnails on Place. So what's that? Let me Cancel out of here and I'll bring up Mini Bridge which we looked at in the Beginning tutorial, and I'll bring up Mini Bridge here, just drop it on. So when we bring an image onto the page like this it gives us a little thumbnail of what it is so if you picked the wrong one you can just click here and delete it and then just go back, this is the one I wanted, drag it onto your page, like that. I'll delete this and close out Mini Bridge here. Back into my Preferences again, Interface. Here you can show Transformational Values. It's turned off at the moment, but if I click it on like this and I start moving this about you can see the Transformational Values there, it's changing, I scale it, it's giving it the new size, and I rotate it, it gives me the angle its rotating at. If you want to see those you turn that on. Back into our Interface here. I'm going to turn this one off because I really don't want it. Enable Multi-Touch Gestures. Well, what's that? In fact, it's for a mouse that I don't have so I can't show you how it works but I can show you what to do if you're not sure of what something is in here. So, we'll go straight to our Help and we'll just type in Preferences and then we'll go to Adobe's online help. It's got a Connect Online so we've got to go there, and here's one thing that always happens. It comes up and it wants to update it. I'm not going to update it right now so I'll just Cancel out of it, but it's a good idea to update it. It keeps everything current. So when you go from InDesign into the Help it automatically goes to the Adobe Media Encoder. I think they could be smarter than that and if you're typing help from InDesign they should be able to work out that you want InDesign help but that's the way it is. So here I can just go Preferences and here I've got to come over and choose InDesign like that, and there it gives me the Preferences. So, here we can go Interface Preferences like that for an even closer down here. Change Interface Preferences and it's down here and there you can see Enable Multi-Touch Gestures - allows multi-touch mouse gestures when you use the Magic Mouse in the Mac OS. So if you have a Magic Mouse you can use this, but if you don't, obviously you can't. So you can always go to the Online Help and it'll give you details of what all these items are. So let me just head back to InDesign now, and we'll take a look at some more options here.
