Navigating the Document / Navigator Pallet

Subtitles of the Movie

Another way of moving around your document is to pull up the navigator window. From the window menu, choose object and layout, then navigator. If you're familiar with Photoshop, this will look very familiar to you as well. Down here, we have a scroll bar and in the window we have a red outline of what we're viewing at the moment. Now, as I scroll to the left, I scroll out, showing me more and more of the pasteboard and, conversely, I go the other direction, I start to move in like this. I can just click once here, like that and move in incrementally and vice versa, just click here. Again, these are our standard settings that we have down here in this menu that you can move in and out simply by clicking here. Again, if you use this method, you can get not fixed numbers. It just depends on how they go. Let me go back to show the spread and that's ctrl-alt- or command-option-0 and we can see both pages in it, like this. The other thing we can do with this is use the window here to scroll around. Now notice when I go up here, we've got a little hand grabber up here, so let me just zoom in and we'll see the effect a little bit better, like this. If I zoom in like this, come up to the hand grabber, I can drag to the top right or top left of the spread, go to the bottom right, move the hand grabber and it moves this frame around the window and then obviously it's moving my page around there at the same time. So you can really scroll in like this, again get your hand grabber, come over to your spider and you can get to where you want very fast. Now, this I think is very useful to keep open if you're working with two monitors. I'm only working with one monitor, as you can see, but it's good to keep the navigator open in the other monitor and that way it's not taking up space on your screen and that way it's easy to navigate in and out, like that. If you're using it a lot, it is just taking up this space on your screen, which I don't like, so two monitors, good. One monitor, hm, it's a personal preference.
