Many people use Illustrator to design for the Web and when you see artwork on the Web things don't look quite right when they're not aligned properly. Well, fortunately we have something in Illustrator called Pixel Grid Alignment that allows us to really see exactly where the pixels are. Now the trick is we have to be zoomed in 600 percent so what I'm going to do is I'll create a type object and just give us an example, so I'll just type a word here, I'll type Dog and I'm going to increase the size of this a little bit, I'm going to duplicate it and I'm going to make the word Cat. Now, I'm going to also get my Ruler out by pressing Cmd- or Ctrl-R. Alright, so I'm putting these next to each other and if you try to eyeball it you would think that I have it lined up nice and properly. So I'm going to also grab a Guide out like so and put it right here and you'll see that they're not aligned and even though I'm moving it I may still not be snapping it where it needs to go. So what I can do is I can go to a 600 percent zoom, alright and then I'm going to move over a little bit like so, so we can see the beginning of the word Dog and the beginning of the word Cat and then I'm going to go to View, Pixel Preview and we could actually see the pixels now. As you could see they're not lined up at all. And I can also make sure I have Snapping on. I have snapped the pixel on under the View Menu, so View, Snap the Pixel. Now if I grab this D here or this C I can snap it right to the edge of that line and I could do the same thing with the other letter. So let me go down there and grab Dog and it's going to snap right to that line. Now I know this sounds like a lot of work, but believe it or not, we can perceive such inaccuracies on the Web, especially if we do a lot of reading. So if you really want to make sure that your logos and your type and everything are precisely aligned online and your artwork and images and all that kind of stuff, zoom into a very high resolution like 600 percent and also go to the View Menu and turn on your Pixel Preview and now you'll be working pixel for pixel and be able to see exactly what people are going to see online when they view your artwork.
