Subtitles of the Movie

Now we're almost ready to head into 3D but I need to nudge this piece over just a little bit more to get that shape we're trying to get. I'm going to go back to View and Preview and then I'm going to drag-select all these guys with my Selection Tool, I'll go to the Window Menu and grab the Pathfinder and I'm going to click this one here, Divide. Then I'll grab my Direct Selection Tool and I'll deselect and get rid of the pieces that I don't need and voila, you have that crazy cutout. I'm going to go ahead and make it white with a gray stroke, make the stroke a little thicker, like 3 point and let's put this bad boy into position on our sign. Take another look at the picture, OK, so it's right there in the middle of the red and touching the bar. Once again, we don't have to follow it exactly because we are just interpreting what we have here. We don't have to follow the picture precisely. And it looks pretty good to me, actually, so I'm going to scale this down just a little bit so I could still see the curvature of these pieces and I'm going to simply drag-select all those, press Cmd- or Ctrl-G and I'm going to move them right here on top of the door. Go to Object, Arrange, Send to Back and let's see what we have. Now, don't forget we can add some shadows still so I'm going to grab a Rectangle and I'm going to add a shadow just right about here because I'm not happy with the way that looks. Let's go ahead and get rid of the Stroke and I'm going to go back to my Transparency Panel. It's getting a little crowded over here. So let me grab my Transparency Panel and I'm going to drop this to Multiply and also dial that down. Let's also take this shape here, this shadow and let's duplicate it so that it's under the bar of the door. If you guys want to create an OPEN sign like I did simply create a rectangle and, like we did with this part here, simply type the word OPEN and throw it right down here. Now what we're going to do, people, is we're going to unlock the other Layer with the wall and we're going to Copy and Paste these things now. So I'm going to drag-select to grab all of this stuff here. I'm going to press Cmd- or Ctrl-G to Group, deselect to make sure everything looks OK and as you could see the trees kind of went away, so I'll undo that and I'll just go ahead and drag-select it anyway and we'll bring it over into our new document to make our 3D. So we're going to go to File, New, Letter size and Landscape Mode and I'm going to close some of these Panels because at this point it's gotten a little ridiculous and I'm going to choose my 3D Grid by clicking one time and as I promised I'm going to show you how to split these guys open. We have these tools down here and I'm going to click on this little circle and move this grid over and I'll grab this other one and move that one over so we have room for our Entrance. And now, we're going to put our walls into place. So we already have this side selected, let's grab our Perspective Grid Tool, we'll go to Edit, Paste and, of course, it would bring in the other shape, so let's go ahead and try that again. We're going to copy this, OK, Copy, we'll head over here again and Edit, Paste and it's going to come in, in just a minute and with our Perspective Grid Tool we're going to grab this guy and put it onto the Grid, so grab your Perspective Grid Tool and throw this wall into 3D and I'm going to put it on this little dotted green line here. See this line? We're going to toss it onto that and move it back just a little bit. Then I'm going to go and click on the 3D Perspective Widget guy, click on this one and we're going to go to Edit, Paste again to bring in another one of those and we're going to move this one on this wall and put it onto the green line so that they match up. Let's head back to our other document and we're going to grab our regular Selection Tool and we're going to grab all these guys and we're going to Copy, Edit, Copy. We're going to head back to our Grid and we're going to deselect everything and we're going to go back to our regular Selection Tool because we don't want this part in the middle to be in 3D. Edit, Paste. Let's go ahead and Shift and hit this guy here to scale it down in proportion and put it into position and if need be scale it up a little bit and also scale it on the sides like so. And what we could do, of course, is we could take this part and we can stretch it out and we can also raise it up a little bit higher and, last but not least, we're going to go to View, Perspective Grid, Hide Grid and, my friends, congratulations! You just made yourself a diner.
