Selections / Artboard Tool
Subtitles of the Movie
OK folks, as I promised, I would talk more about how to use the functionality of these multiple artboards to create magic. Now, what I'm going to do here is show you something that you're going to totally love. As you can see, this is my company logo, Diehard Studio and I'm going to zoom out. As a matter of fact I'm going to show all my artboards so let me just zoom out quite a bit here. I just want to show you that I have four artboards and I'm going to take this logo, let me grab everything here, and I'm going to put it right here this upper left-hand corner because I want this to be on an envelope. Now what I'm going to do is go to this tool here, which you'll find in your Toolbox, called the Artboard Tool and I'm going to click on it and now I have the ability to resize every, single artboard to suit my needs. I can also see that I have some numbers here as well. So this is the first artboard, second, third and fourth. So I'm going to leave this one the size that it is now. But of course I can always go to the presets and choose a size. So I'm going to leave it as it is and now I'm going to go to number two, go to my Presets and I'm going to say that I want this to be maybe this size here. So I'll drag this artboard and position it so that it's right in the center like so. So that could be a stamp, for example. And I can resize it like this if I want as well. So that's going to be a stamp. I'll go to my third artboard and let's say I want this to be like a TV screen so I'll go to NTSCDB and I'll put this one right about here so this one's centered. Now I'll go to my fourth one and let's see what I'll do here. Maybe something like this size and I'll drag it right there again. So now I have these overlapping artboards all sharing this same piece of artwork. Now, when I go to File and I choose to Save As, I can choose to save it as PDF, which I've already done and saved to my Desktop. So I'm going to open that PDF up and show you something awesome. When I save as a PDF, each of those overlapping artboards generates the correct size that I specified. So this could be a business card, this could be for the TV screen, a splash screen for a TV show and this could be a stamp or whatever you want. So you can see how easy it would be from now on to create stationery or to create anything that's going to have corporate identity so that the address, the stationery, the logo and everything shares the same look and feel simply by overlapping the components on the same document. So artboards now have a whole new purpose in our lives. This will save us time and it will allow us to resize and reposition these at will so we can create multiple documents from just one piece of artwork. And that's just one way you can use these multiple artboards.
