Selections / Selections

Subtitles of the Movie

When you work inside of Adobe Illustrator, there are several things that you can select, several different types of items from the filled artwork to the components that make that filled artwork to multiple selections. To select the entire object you're going to choose this tool right here, the Selection Tool. It's the black arrow and when you click on it, you choose the entire element. So I can move this cloud around, for example. When you want to select a part of the object or just a component, such as a point, you then choose the white arrow known as the Direct Selection Tool. So I can click on this tool here and then I can click on a point like this. Then I can take that point and move it around to deform the object. So basically the black arrow helps you to move elements around in your document and the white arrow helps you to find or alter those elements. Let's go back to the Selection Tool. Let's say you want to select more than one object in your Illustrator document. Say, for example, you want this cloud and another cloud. All you have to do is hold down the Shift Key on your keyboard and now I can click on everything I want to add to that selection. Likewise, if I decide that I want to take something out of the selection, all I have to do is keep holding down Shift and click on it again and now that object is deselected and you'll notice that the bounding box shrinks to show that I only have a few things selected and it grows as I add more to that selection. I can also easily select everything at one time by going to the Select Menu and choosing All. Then it will grab everything that it can and it will select it for you. Likewise, I can go to select and choose to deselect as well. So that is how you can select objects and the components that make up the objects inside of Adobe Illustrator, using the Selection Tool, commonly known as the black arrow and the Direct Selection Tool, commonly known as the white arrow.
