If your client or boss every wants you to make a chart don't despair. Illustrator makes it easy. You'll notice in the toolbox that we have this Column Graph Tool. Now me, I keep away from this like it's the plague because I don't really like to make Graphs. So let me show you how to make it anyway. I'll go ahead and click on this tool and I'll go down to the Pie Graph. What I do now is I can either click one time in the center of my document and enter a width and height and click OK or what I can do is undo this, let me go ahead and undo this whole thing, click and drag out the size of the Graph myself. As you can see I'm presented with a Blank Graph and also this Text Entry little Dialog Box, it looks like Microsoft Excel so if you ever use that this is what you have. What we can do at this point is enter data. So I'm going to enter some colors. For example I'll type blue and then I will hit the Tab Key to move to the next field and type red, I'll Tab over again and enter green and one more to enter yellow. Now what I'm going to do is enter some values. So under these criteria here I'm going to enter some numbers. Once again I'll hit Tab, let me go ahead and change that one. Tab over and when I'm done what I can do is click this little check right here and now I have my Graph. I'll go ahead and close this. As you can see everything is grouped but if you want to change colors what you have to do is grab your Direct Selection Tool and then you can individually select parts of your Graph like so and even the words, just use your swatches. So I can change that yellow, this one to green, this one to red and I think you get the idea. So it's a very handy way to change this and make it your own. It's still fully editable so I can deform it or whatever I like to do and I can also return and change the Graph Type by the way. So as you see there I'm going to have my Selection Tool selected I have my graph selected and I'll just go back to my Graph Tool and make sure that's selected and when I hit Enter or Return I'm giving this Graph Type Dialog Box, so I can change this at anytime, click OK, hit Enter or Return, change it again. Enter or Return and you can change it to your heart's content. Just make sure that you're on the Graph Tool because if you're not and you hit Enter or Return you'll get the Move Dialog Box that you might have seen earlier. So that's a common mistake so make sure you're on this tool when you hit Enter or Return to customize or change your Graph. You can also add a Drop Shadow as you see here. You can add a legend across the top; you can put the first row in front, first column in front and many other options that you'll see in this list. So keep that in mind, that you're never really stuck, you can always come back at anytime and change the type of graph that you're working with.
