Live Effects is something that you won't find listed under the Window Menu. There really is no panel called Live Effects. Instead, it's simply a methodology so that you can create things and always come back to change them at a later time. It's a great way to create a Glow and turn it off, or modify it. So even if I save this document later on I can come back and change it. So, I'm going to click on my star, I'm going to go to my Effect Menu and I think I will add a Stylized Outer Glow. Now one thing I want to mention is that Illustrator takes a little longer to calculate special effects than Photoshop, so if I click Preview every time I make a change it's going to update, so what I suggest you do is you make your changes first then click Preview, and then turn it off again. So, let's say I want to affect the color of this Glow. I can change it here and I can increase the size of that Glow and then once I'm finished with this I can click Preview. So once again, just give it a moment, and it's going to calculate that blur, which is actually the Outer Glow, and we'll be able to see what it looks like. So, once I accept this I can now see that I have this glow, and it's going to take a moment to actually apply it to the star since we only previewed it. Alright, so let's say that your client or you decide that you don't really like how this color's working with this particular star. Well, all you have to do is look in your Appearance Panel. Once again, if you don't see it Window, Appearance. As long as you have your star selected you'll see that we have this outer glow. So I can click on the Eyeball and turn it off. Now of course when I turn it back on Illustrator has to recalculate it, but I can put it back on at any time. And then we'll wait for a couple of seconds and the glow Ð there we go. OK, so we have our Outer Glow, and I can also modify by clicking right here where it says Outer Glow. So I can change the color of that glow to something like blue, and then click OK and Illustrator will update it eventually, and then we have our Glow applied to our object. So, once again, a Live Effect is something that you can hide and show, and always go back to at any time to change the Parameters and you're never stuck with the effect. It's not pixels so you can turn it off and you can even throw it away in the Garbage Can if you're not happy with it.
