You can repeat a transformation that you create in Illustrator very easily by first of all placing an object the way you want it to be, and then making some kind of transformation or alteration to it, and then having Illustrator copy pretty much what you did and repeat that transformation over and over again. So I'm going to first of all move this guy out of the way, we're going to do this post here first. So let me group all these pieces and move him over here. We're going to give him some hair in a minute. But for this post here, I'm going to group that as well. I'm going to show you something. If I hold down on my keyboard the Alt and, or Option key on a Macintosh, while holding down the Shift key and I drag, I create one transformation. I pretty much just copied and moved this artwork. So once again, that is with the Alt or Option key and Shift down. What you'll notice by the way before you do that, is that when you hold down the Alt or Option key, you'll see a little double headed mouse icon. And when you grab the Shift key, it kind of goes away. What you normally have to do is just click on it, and then click on it again, and then the transformation will occur for you. So let me undo that one because I already have one transformation that I created. I simply copied and moved something. If I go through the Object menu and I go to Transform, you see that Illustrator says Transform Again, which means it's going to duplicate what I just did. I can also press on my keyboard Command or Control D to access this more easily. So I'm going to go ahead and do that keyboard shortcut about five times, and each one of these is exactly the same distance away based on my original transformation. How cool is that? All right, so I'm going to move these guys out of the way for right now, and now we're going to give our guy some hair using the same technique. But we're going to throw in a little bit of a twist. I'm going to put some rotation in here. So I'm going to grab my Spiral, all right? Normally you'll see the Line Segment tool, so let's go on down to the Spiral tool, and we're going to give this guy a little bit of a curl right there. And he's, he's looking, because you know whenever you get a haircut, you're very anxious. He's very anxious. He's looking right at me, man. He's like, Man don't mess my hair up, I got a party to go to. So here's his hair. And I'm going to go to the View menu and I'm going to choose Outline, only because when I click on the Rotation tool one time, I want to be able to establish the rotational pivot, which at the moment is in the little curly part of his hair. I don't want that. I'm going to click right here on the center of his face, on this X here. And now I've told Illustrator that I want to rotate on this axis here. So once again I'm going to hold down the Alt or Option key. This time I'm not going to hold down the Shift key because I want to manually put this where I want it to go, and I'm going to put it right here so that it overlaps a little bit like this. So I've created my transformation. I'm going to go back to Preview Mode, and I'm going to hit that keyboard combination a couple times. Now you know that's the coolest thing in the world, right? Now every time that Illustrator repeats my transformation, it looks at where that rotation pivot is and it moves the object based exactly on the increments that I manually put in when I moved it myself. So using the Repeat Transform, you're able to create some very intricate artwork, and pretty much just do something one time and have Illustrator replicate it for you.
