Editing Content / Editing Text

Subtitles of the Movie

In this video tutorial we're going to take you through the steps involved in Editing Text when using Adobe FrameMaker 9. There are a lot of general, simple, best practices to follow when Adding, Deleting, or Modifying Text. In other tutorials we've already explored how to select content, but here I'm going to highlight the phrase U.S.A. and type directly over it with United States of America. In order to do so I select Text and I simply start typing. You do have to be cautious with the range that you select. For example, if I triple-click and I highlight the entire paragraph and I start to type you'll see that it replaces the entire paragraph which text that's already formatted and it runs directly into the next line, which is not what's desired. So, the big warning when it comes to working with Text content is to select exactly what you want to modify. I'm just going to Undo that - Ctrl-Z - and instead I'm going to add one more empty paragraph immediately after the phrase: rapid advances in technology. To do so, I just click at the end of a paragraph, I press Enter, and then I can type content. In order to Delete text, simply select a word and press Delete or Backspace, or simply press the Backspace key several times. If you're working with a document that has text that was copied from elsewhere, for example, this has content: geographically Canada is located in northern North America, but the file as we can see up here is the USA.fm document. If the changes need to be made, again, select Content, United States is and at this point I'm going to save you a little bit of time so that you don't have to watch me type. Instead I'm just going to Paste over top of this with text that I've already previously typed. So, I would highlight the content and type in over top of it in order to modify existing text. In order to delete text, I select it and I press either the Delete key or the Backspace and in order to edit existing content I highlight and I type over top of it. This is all very useful if what you're working with is text-based content and if you're working with other content, such as a graphic, you can select the image itself or you can select the border surrounding it. If you're working with tables, you can select table-based content in any example that you decide to work with, select content, make your modifications and that's how you can modify; select content and press Delete or Backspace and that's how you can delete; or simply click where you have an insertion point and work your way through adding text, images and so on as required.
