Adobe FrameMaker 9 Overview / New Files (Custom Templates)

Subtitles of the Movie

In this video tutorial we're going to explore how to create new content based on a Corporate Standard Template and not necessarily a Template or a Document that's included with FrameMaker by default. Many companies have a Standard Template, which is available to the application and should be used whenever creating new content. Custom Templates usually contain content that isn't part of a default installation. For example, your company may have a Template with a logo in the Header or Footer, specific colors, unique configuration and layout and so on. In the following example, a Custom Template Folder exists with a variety of files that are needed to create new books. Each file is custom designed with a default custom page size, a collection of paragraph and character formats, standard page layout, table styles and more. In this example a new document is created from the location and will then automatically be formatted to look like what you're currently working with, whatever that standard might be. We're also working with the assumption that the default Templates that are going to be used in this corporate environment are stored in the Default location with all of the other Templates. In this case, the publishing Smarter Templates include a standard Template for a Chapter. When I create a new document based on this Chapter I get some sample content including a default Chapter Title and I can replace this with my own custom Title and I get a section where the first body paragraph goes. There's basically a wide range of ways to create new documents. You can go in and create a brand new document that's based on some sort of a default portrait or landscape page. You can create a new document by exploring Standard Templates and working with a variety of different defaults, including showing samples of them, or you can create a new Template that's based on some sort of a corporate standard that's being used throughout your entire company. In any case, once the content is created your document needs to be populated, formatted, saved and closed as required.
