Adobe FrameMaker 9 Overview / New Files (Default Templates)

Subtitles of the Movie

In this video tutorial we're going to explore various Templates that are included with the software. These Templates have a Custom Page Layout, Custom Formatting, and in many cases Sample Content to get you started. It's common whenever you work with a new document that a standard Template is used. There are Templates that are included with the application, but it's also likely Templates have been created for you to ensure a corporate standard is followed. Here we're going to explore the standard Templates that are included with the software. To begin, go in and create a New Document and take a look at the dialog that displays. Down near the bottom there's an Explore Standard Templates option. When you explore the Standard Templates, a dialog displays with a variety of different files that you can start with. To see information, including a sample related to any of the given Templates, click on the type of Template. For example, clicking on Fax shows a sample of a Fax Cover Page. Clicking on Outline Harvard, shows a standardized outline. To see additional Templates, click Down, or to return to where you were, click Up. Once you're looking at any of the standard Templates you can click Create in order to build a new document. This new document is already formatted with some standard content, such as the Chapter number. Going back into the dialog, there's also the option to show a sample. This gives you a much more rich document filled with a variety of sample content that you can explore. In this case Primary Headings, Subheadings, Headers and Footers, Bulleted Lists, Numbered Lists, Tables, Footnotes and on the last page, sample Graphics and Equations. Closing off this file without saving it, I'll return back and I can click on Create New Document. Inside here I also have a variety of default Folders that I can work with in order to review some of the files that already exist. Rather than going through and exploring the standard Templates, I can open up a Template directly. Once this is opened I start to type in things such as my Chapter Title and I begin to populate the document. Once I'm done working with the document I can close it and either save it, or discard the document as required.
