Understanding FrameMaker Workspace / Saving Documents

Subtitles of the Movie

Let's talk about the formats that you can save through Adobe Framemaker 7.0. Starting with the portable document format or otherwise known as pdf. You need the Adobe Acrobat reader to actually read that document - it is very commonly used on the Internet. Then we have the view only - view only option you can save a book or a document; you can open it but you can't edit it, it is preview only. Then we have this new MIF, which is very interesting. MIF creates a Framemaker document that contains statements that describe text and graphics in your document - so it is more of a descriptive file format. Then we have HTML, which is Hypertext Markup Language, very common web language, almost everybody is using it today and that's the web page format. And we also have SGML which is coming up next. SGML contains elements and attributes for the web. And the next one is XML; it seems everywhere I look these days, XML happens to be the big cheese of the Internet. It seems that every corporation that I run past is asking for XML, so I can definitely say XML is very good to learn; it is extensible markup language, it is also for the web. Then we have text only - text only is a text file or a notepad file for Windows or a simple text file for Macintosh. And last but not least, we have Framemaker 6.0, you can save down. Saving down your files allows other users who have an older version of your application to actually open that particular file. Well, if you wish to find out more about XML, HTML, SGML, visit this website and it will give you a lot more information, I can guarantee you that - www.w3schools.com. It’s an excellent website and it will teach you all different types of web languages. www.w3schools.com. types of web languages. www.w3schools.com.
