Understanding FrameMaker Workspace / Creating New Documents

Subtitles of the Movie

Creating a new document - we are going to talk about that. Let's go ahead and go to the file menu: file new, choose document. Now there is a couple of options here, we have portrait, landscape, and custom. Portrait would be the Mona Lisa; landscape could be a panoramic photo - those are analogies for those two. We are going to choose custom, and we are going to use a default of a US letter which is eight and a half by eleven. For the number of columns, we are going to do two; and the gap, or gutter width, is the space in between two columns, and we are going to do 0.5. And there's the column margins, single sided or double sided; and we also have the units; I am into inches - so let's just go ahead and click create to get this on the road. And now you can clearly see, you have your two columns, you have your gap in the middle, as you can see there is a 0.5 gap, just scroll down and back up again. And I am actually going to just type my name, Mario Leone. Ok, I am going to select my name and hit b for bold and i for italic. And I will select my name also and I could increase the font size or perhaps decrease the font size, or I can make the text lower case or make the initial letter upper case, or all upper - giving you very good control over your type. We are going to play with the text alignment which is center, right and of course justify. And now I am going to actually show you how to get to these options. You click through the access bar, so you get to the plain bold and italic, and then you can bold your type. We are going to choose spacing, text spacing, which is spacing in between sentences. I am going to type a few words here, and I am going to select the type. Selecting the type is very critical; click text spacing; and I can increase to custom spacing; and I can control the spacing in between sentences. It’s a wonderful way to save room with your text, and control the paragraph structure. e room with your text, and control the paragraph structure.
