Understanding FrameMaker Workspace / Choosing Standard or Structured Workspace
Subtitles of the Movie
There are two types of views, there is a structured view and a normal view, and I am going to show you where you can locate structured templates. We go through the Framemaker 7.0 folder; structure folder has some templates - but there is also a folder called samples, and it has templates inside of it; I’m going to choose a structured template, choose outline numeric, and click OK. It says this document contains structure information; the current interface doesn't support it, do you want to open for editing? You say yes. I can open this for editing and edit it in normal Framemaker view, but the problem is, is I don't have the structured view, allowing me for quicker editing. And I am going to switch to structured view - here I am in structured view now and I will show you how to obtain that. It's in the file menu – go to file references, and you go to general. And you change the product interface from Framemaker normal to structured - and that's how I did that. And here on the right side is displaying the structured view. The structured view, what it really is, is a tree style of layout - it shows your entire document in a tree format that you can collapse and also edit. And if I click right here I can change the name Paul J Murphy to my name, and that updates on the regular page. I can collapse my elements and my structured view; I can actually click on an item and of course I can delete what's there if I want to. A good way to actually delete is right click on the element and choose clear and that would delete the item from the structured view, which deletes it from your page. You collapse these elements allowing you to have much more control. I can drag and drop an element on top of another to swap let's say paragraphs or topics. You’ll notice anytime I select an object in the structured view it is also selected on the left side, which is the standard view. I am going to delete this little line here, and if you hit backspace too far, it deletes the element completely, so you have to be careful. If I select it, structured view, you can see that my document also gets selected, and I can collapse the whole structure. I am going to go to the top of the page, click here and jump to page two, and hit go - and there you go, you can see how it jumps from one page to another as well. 10.0] and there you go, you can see how it jumps from one page to another as well.
