Planning your template, sounds simple, but in essence there are some things that you should actually think about before you do anything. Starting off with your platform. Is your file going to be opened up on a Mac? Is it going to be opened up on a PC? These are things to consider before you decide to make a template. Then you have fonts. If I have Ariel black on one computer, and then I move that Framemaker file to another machine that does not have Ariel black, it's going to ask me, do you wish to substitute your Ariel black with another system font? So see to it that if you are using multiple machines, and you are importing the templates back and forth between multiple machines, see to it that all the fonts are properly installed on all the machines. Remember there are type 1 fonts and true type fonts, and then there are a big difference, and there is also a little bit of a history behind it. So keep in mind that fonts are extremely important. Now what is this template for? Does it frequently asked questions? Is it a report? Is it a financial document? Remember if it needs to be financial make it look financial. What is the template really for? Now you also have online viewing - a PDF or an HTML file. Now PDF stands for portable document format, which is a PDF file that is read by the Acrobat reader. You can download Adobe Acrobat reader for free, so it's not a big burden. It's actually nothing, you can download very quick and preview all types of PDF documents. And this is great for the Internet, it is a wonderful thing. It's also good for an Intranet - I know several companies that have Adobe PDF reader on every machine, and their corporate documentation is on their server. And then you also have master pages, this is the most important one, whether or not you are going to use master pages or not. one, whether or not you are going to use master pages or not.
