Let's look at XHTML - Extensible Hypertext Language. This is a new version of HTML 4.0 as an application of the extensible Markup Language or XML. HTML is a set of codes, that's the markup language, that's the actual “meat and potatoes” that a writer puts into a document to make it displayable on the World Wide Web. HTML 4.0 is the current version of it - XML is a structured set of rules for how one might define any kind of data to be shared on the web. Let's take a look at how you can look at the source code of a web page in two different fashions. I have Yahoo right here - I’m going to maximize Yahoo; in order for me to view the HTML code I go to view and choose source. And there I am, here I am, there's the opening HTML code - there's the head, there’s the java script, the title, scroll down a bit, and there's the body, and then at the bottom of my document is the body close, and the HTML close. And if I want to look for the head close, here's the head open, I’ll go to search, find, type the code, hit find, and then it finds the closing head tag in case it is lost in the mix. Now I go to a different site - www.lycos.com. Here we are at Lycos - the second way to actually view the HTML code is not just to go the view menu, but also right click where there's no images and choose view source. And it gives you all the HTML code for that website. Here's the doc type, the opening tags, closing tags, and all the content as well. At the bottom of my document I have the body close and the HTML close. The skeletons of HTML always stays the same - only what's in the body changes. Keep that in mind - XHTML is just a little bit different from HTML, just a step up. nd - XHTML is just a little bit different from HTML, just a step up.
