Languages and Structures / About XML

Subtitles of the Movie

XML - we have all heard of it before, sounds like a strange thing, but let us take a look at what it really is. Well, first let’s start off with the DTD, the document type definition. This is what I talked about before, and this is a HTML DTD. You can see the World Wide Web consortium; w3c and document type definition; the version of HTML being used; and finally the language at the end, which is EN which stands for English. I could also change the doc type to a different standard, like 4.0, and call it XHTML if I want, and 1.0 if I like. So HTML 3.2, 4.0 and XHTML 1.0. XML - extensible markup language is a flexible way to create common information formats, and share both the format and the data on the world wide web, intranets and elsewhere. People like XML, because you can make it to be universal - let's talk about it for a moment. For example, computer developers might agree on a standard or a common way to describe information about a computer product. You might have several companies trying to formulate a method of explanation in regards to the same thing, like processors speed, memory size, and so forth. And then describe the product information format with XML. That XML that's standardized, or people have agreed upon, actually can become a standard in itself - but it is a standard explanation, explaining things just a little bit differently. More on XML - if you want to find out more information you can go to the World Wide Web consortium, w3c.org. You can find out a lot about HTML; you can find out the syntax code of XML. XML and HTML are very different - you need to understand that they are very different languages, HTML in my opinion is a lot easier, XML is a step up. It is not difficult to learn, however, with a little time, effort and hard work, you will be able to conquer it in no time. HTML is the simplified or simpler language to actually learn. Just remember, XML is wonderful to describe information. st remember, XML is wonderful to describe information.
