Let’s take a look at what's the difference between a bitmap file and a vector graphics file. Well a bitmap file is a grid of color, and each block in the grid is considered a pixel, which stands for pixel, means picture elements. A bitmap has to remember each pixel location. And it's higher in file size as you can see. It's got to remember a whole row of colors some times. Now moving over to a vector graphics program - the vector graphics application treats the graphics with lines, points, and fills. It's got 4 points and a color of blue. And a vector graphic itself that is generated from a vector program, is line, points, and fills, and it's lower in file size - most definitely lower in file size. So when you are dealing with a bitmap, it is essentially higher. We are going to make a new file, click custom and we are going to use these defaults. Now we are going to import a graphic – go to file, import, choose file. We are going to choose rule.eps - we want to click copy into document. It's going to copy the eps into your Framemaker document. If we were to use import by reference it doesn't copy it into the document. But Framemaker refers to the rule.eps - so it relies on that file. Copying it is a lot better, however it trims your file size. You can see there is an inner frame and an outer frame for that graphic, it’s called a reference frame. Here I’m going to go to file import. We could import formats from other documents, or we can import an object and the object window will open. We can create a new file or create from file – Adobe Acrobat. Adobe Illustrator Artwork 10.0, which is a vector graphics program. And then you have PhotoShop, which is a bitmap graphics program. In the bitmap image, and there's the icon, and a whole bunch of file types that are different. We’ve got flash movie; we have import from scanner, you can insert an object from the scanner; and Microsoft Document; a PowerPoint slide show; a wave sound, sound file; and a video clip - and you can see there are lot of files to actually choose from. d, sound file; and a video clip - and you can see there are lot of files to actually choose from.
