OK let's create a new document - I am going to go up to the file menu, choose new, then document. Or you could choose book, but we are going to choose document. You have portrait, landscape and custom - I am going to click custom. To make a custom document you can control the page sizes, there are many different types; we have US letters, US legal - US letters is the most common; US legal is the second most common; tabloid, A3 tabloid; A4 letter; A5 letter; and B5 letter. The most common is US letter and US legal. I can control the width of my document and the height of my document as well. Most typical is eight and a half by eleven. Now the column margins - I can control the space on all four sides of my document, which is one inch from the top, bottom, left and right. The number of columns –if I am dealing with columns; I am just going to do three here; and I am going to control the gap between columns, and that is going to be 0.2. We have the pagination: single sided; double sided; and we have a pull down menu below, which is right first page and left first page. And we have the units, and we have the units: Cicero; didos; points; picas; inches; millimeters; centimeters - and you click create. Now here's our document, you can zoom in or zoom out from the bottom of our workspace. And you can see the gap in between my columns, right where my cursor is - you can see that there is one, two, three columns. I’m going to choose my tools, so I can play around with this frame - display the tools palette. I’m going to choose the select object. I click on the edge and it gives me anchor points that I can pull from, and this controls the width. I can control the height by pulling from the bottom; control from the top; and I can even drag all the way to the top of my document. And I am going to go to save as, and it saved as an fm file which is Framemaker 7.0. But you can save as other things such as a view only file; document 6.0; Framemaker 6.0; a MIF file; text only; PDF; HTML; XML; Microsoft RTF 1.6,1.3; Microsoft Word for Windows; Windows Mac and all the back versions; WordPerfect and WordPerfect for Mac; and a normal document of course; and the view only is view only, there is no editing involved - and then you click save. And there you have it, and that’s the basic structure of your document. 4.0] And there you have it, and that’s the basic structure of your document.
