Creating Simple Graphics / Fills
Subtitles of the Movie
In the previous movie, I introduced you to Strokes and Lines. Shapes can also have Fills so In this movie, let me introduce the concept of Fills. You can create Fills without Strokes using the Brush and Paint Bucket Tools. Here's an example of an object without a Stroke and then I can take the Paint Bucket Tool and fill it. You can also create objects without Strokes using the Geometric Tools, Geometric Drawing Tools. And the way that you do that is just make sure that the stroke color here in either the Properties Inspector or the Tool Palette over here, the Tool Panel has a "none" there for the Stroke Setting. So, these two correspond to each other. So if I set the Stroke color to blue here in the Tool Panel, it will also be blue here in the Properties Inspector. But if you want to create objects without Strokes, turn that off. Let's change the color of the Fill here by going to the Fill Palette and there I have an oval without a Stroke with just a Fill, and now a rectangle with just a Fill. So you can modify Fills using the Paint Bucket, the Color and Tool Modifiers in the Toolbar, the Color Mixer Panel or using the Property Inspector. Let me bring out the Color Mixer Panel. And notice I have with the Tool Panel and the Property Inspector I have Color Chips for Stroke Color and for Fill Color, undock my Color Panel. Let's go ahead and create some more Fills using this tool, something that you should know about the Paint Bucket, that if the object is not enclosed entirely, the Paint Bucket will give you unexpected results in this case. It will fill nothing, however, if I go ahead and close that shape, now I can fill it with the Paint Bucket. So the shape must be closed for the Paint Bucket to work. Notice that I'm modifying these fills, as I mentioned previously with the Paint Bucket, using the palettes here in the Tools Panel, Property Inspector, or Color Mixer Panel. And that's all there really is to Fills in creating graphics with Flash CS3. Now that you've had a chance to use some of the drawing tools in Flash, now would be a good time to learn about Flashs' two drawing models, the Merge Drawing Model and the Object Drawing Model, which will be the topic of the next movie.
