As you can seem, my menu here looks pretty ragged because none of the buttons are lined up. Also, the text is out of alignment. Luckily, the Align Commands here in the Modify Align Menu; Left, Center, Vertical, Right, Top, Center, Horizontal, Bottom and then the Distribute Widths and Heights Commands should make quick work of this alignment need. Also I have the Align Panel with many of the same tools here and a few extra ones. You can find the Align Panel by choosing Window, Align from the bottom section of that drop-down menu. Let me go ahead and demonstrate these tools by cleaning up this menu here. Let's start by Shift Clicking all of my buttons. Actually, what I need to do is let's ungroup this first button and then let's Shift Click on all of the buttons here. I'm clicking on them with the Selection Tool while holding down the Shift Key and then let's align these all left like so. Now let's also distribute them equally in a vertical dimension. So in other words, the spaces in between each button is now the same. I love these Distribute Options here and I use them all the time for problems such as this where I need to evenly space menu items. Now let's work on the Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4 Labels. One reminder though is if you're using the Align Panel, make sure that you're aware of the Position Button right here. Selecting the Position Button will align the objects relative to the canvas. Taking off the Position Button will align objects relative to each other. So we can select multiple objects and then use the Align, Distribute and Match Size Options to line everything up. Continuing with my alignment problems, let's go ahead and Shift Click on the Page 1 Label and the Button and now choose Align Horizontal Center. That will line up these two. Let's go ahead and now do the others. Align Center to line these all up. Let's do Page 3 Button. Align Center and finally the Page 4 Button, align that Center. I can also at this point group these buttons now that they're aligned. Modify Group or Control G will also align these. So let's Shift Click on both of these and now do a Control G to group these, each button in turn. Once you have the buttons lined up internally, now creating groups makes it that much easier to line them up and lastly let's select all of the buttons and then distribute them along the center and then align them left so that I have everything lined up, each button internally with the button and it's button label to create a clean menu that's lined up and looks even and well distributed. Now, many of the commands over here in the Align Panel have equivalent commands over here under Modify, Align. Let's go ahead and select several of these buttons to enable these. But notice Modify, Align gives me Left, Center, Vertical, Right, Top, Center, Horizontal and then the Distribute Widths and Distribute Heights. Not quite as many of the options over here in the Align Panel but if you don't have space in your workspace, you'd rather use a menu, that menu option is available. That'll then conclude this section of the tutorial on Selecting, Transforming and Organizing Object on the Fireworks Canvas. Let's now move on to the next section, Working with Text where you'll learn how to format text, attach text to a path, transform text, import text and all about the Fireworks spellchecker.
