Getting Started / New Features pt. 2

Subtitles of the Movie

Continuing from the previous movie my review of new features in Fireworks CS4, we now get to Fireworks new CSS export capabilities. With Fireworks CS4 you can now design complete web pages in Fireworks and then export web standards compliant CSS based layouts complete with external style sheets in one easy step, CSS by the way stands for Cascading Style Sheets, from the export menu or export dialogue here under File, notice that the export dropdown has the CSS and images option here in the options button, you have the HTML setup options including a variety of document properties, repeats, attachments, page alignments that are all CSS based, you can also use CSS for popup menus and write CSS to an external file, start with one of the six most common layouts to integrate foreground and background graphics with automatic margin and padding detection. Drop HTML rich symbols on your Fireworks layouts to specify headings, links, and form properties for precise CSS control. Fireworks CS4 now has tight Adobe color integration, access the latest color themes from the Adobe color web hosted service right here in Fireworks to sample and apply to your web designs. Choose Window extensions, Color and you'll get this color panel where you can craft color harmonies for your own use or you can upload to the color, the Adobe color website, if you've never visited the Adobe color site at http:slash, /kuler.adobe.com here, you can create your own themes using a variety of different color rules analogous, monochromatic, triad, complementary, compound, or you can choose from themes provided by the Adobe color community. So this website is now integrated into this panel, again making it much easier to work with color schemes and themes in your Fireworks documents. You can also now in Fireworks CS4 share your screens with the new Connect Now feature, choosing Window extensions connections allows you to go ahead and share your screen with folks that you invite into a sharing presentation. You can now export to Adobe PDF files via the File export dialogue, here File, Export, in addition to the images and HTML and images only notice you have a Adobe PDF file option, you can generate high fidelity PDF documents from your Fireworks design comps to improve communication with your clients, this also enables you to package an entire site design into one PDF file. With Fireworks CS4 you can now export a clickable prototype as an interactive PDF file so you can easily collect comments from reviewers and demo all of your Fireworks designs. If you click on the Options button you get compatibility options, which version of Acrobat compression options, quality options, convert to grayscale, enable text selection, bleed value, you can password protect your documents or you can use passwords to restrict certain tasks such as printing, editing, copying or commenting, you can also now create Adobe air prototypes directly with Fireworks, these are ready to be deployed to html and CSS as well as Adobe flex or SWF, do that here from the HTML and images, click on options and notice here under the HTML style you have Adobe Air HTML or XHTML, you can also now produce better type designs with the enhanced typesetting capabilities of Adobe type engine, this will be familiar to users of Photoshop and Illustrator, import, copy, paste double byte characters from Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop without loss of fidelity, you can also float text inside a path for high impact logos as I demonstrated in the previous movie. So there you have a brief overview of some of the interesting and important new features in the CS4 version of Fireworks let me now move on to the next movie and introduce you to the Fireworks works space.
