Creating Vector Graphics / Survey of Auto Shapes pt. 1
Subtitles of the Movie
Continuing from the previous movie my review of the Auto Shape Tools, let me now give you a survey of the various Auto Shape Tools here in the Vector Section of the Fireworks CS4 Toolbar. These are going to be underneath the regular Vector Shape Tools; Rectangle, Ellipse and Polygon Tool, starting with the Arrow Tools, the Arrow and the Arrow Line. The Arrow Tools draw object groups that appear as simple arrow of any proportions. Using control points you can adjust the arrowhead flair, the tail length, the width and the tip length. There's the tip length. Here's the width of the arrowhead. Then the height of the head itself and then you have control points here for the thickness. If I can grab that control point. Sometimes you need to zoom in on these tools to control them better. There's the thickness. The curvature of the arrow bend there; let's go ahead and undo that. I made that so that it's; then the length of the arrowhead here. You also have beneath that the Arrow Line Tool which draws lines of various angles. You can control the thickness of that line using the Properties Inspector. I can bring up my Properties Inspector here and I have stroke control points here for the thickness as well as the type of line; hard line, basic line, airbrush and then other properties that I can adjust. Next you have the Beveled Rectangle Tool below the Arrow Tool. The Beveled Rectangle draws groups that appear as rectangles with beveled corners. Using control points you can edit the amount of bevel for all four corners together or change the bevel of individual corners. Let's go ahead, and using the Property Inspector, fill this with a color like so and then here are my control points for adjusting the bevel. You can also click on the control points, change the bevel. Let's go ahead and clear my canvas and go to the next tool is the Chamfer Rectangle is below that. The Chamfer Rectangle group draws object groups that appear as rectangles with chamfers. These are corners that are rounded to the inside of the rectangle. You can edit the chamfer radius of all corners together or change the chamfer radius of individual corners. You can also click on one of the control points to change the settings here. There's also a control point here for adjusting the overall dimensions of the rectangle. Although it doesn't really look like a rectangle much anymore. Underneath the Chamfer Rectangle Tool is the Connector Line Tool, this one here. This draw object groups that appear as three segment connector lines such as those used to connect the elements of a flow chart or organizational chart. Using control points you can edit the end points for the first and third sections of the connector line, as well as the location of the second section which connects the first and last sections. So here are the control points. Again, you'll probably just want to experiment with these settings. That controls the level of curvature between line segments as well as the length of the various line segments here. Interesting Auto Shape Tool this one. Next is the Donut Shape Tool. This draws object groups that appear as filled rings and using control points you can adjust the inner parameter or split the shape into pieces. I demonstrated this Auto Shape previously. Next is the L-Shaped Tool. This draws object groups that appear as right-angled corner shapes and using control points you can edit the length and width of the horizontal and vertical sections as well as the curvature of the corner like so. I demonstrated this tool previously as well. Let's go ahead and clear my canvas to make room for more shapes.
