You can transform a selected object or group, or even a pixel selection using the Scale, Skew, and Distort tools, and Menu commands. The menu commands are found under the Main menu under Modify, Transform, and there is the Scale, Skew and Distort options. The Scale, Skew, and Distort tools are found here in the Select area of the Tools panel, underneath the Selection tool, or the Pointer tool you have the Scale, Skew, and Distort tools. The Scale tool enlarges or reduces an object, so notice that I have this vector shape selected here and I can enlarge or reduce it. I can also enlarge or reduce bitmap objects using the Scale tool in the same way. Notice that the difference is that my bitmap objects will distort, they'll get all pixilated. Here's another vector object, this green border, and likewise I can shrink or expand this as well, the difference being here that's a vector shape, so it doesn't get all pixilated. The Skew tool slants an object along a specified axis, so notice that I can move my cursor very carefully to the edge here, and skew along this vertical axis, or horizontal axis. Notice I can also rotate with this tool. You need to move the mouse cursor in just the right location to get the skew icon. That's the icon right there. That's the Rotate icon, so you can also rotate while you're using this tool. Again, the Modify, Transform, Skew command will do the exact same thing, give you this view here with the eight control points which you can adjust. The Distort moves the sides or corners of an object in the direction you drag a selection handle while the tool is active. So here is the Distort tool, notice that I can move this object but if I take the corner, notice that it distorts the corner in the direction that I drag my mouse. Let's go ahead and apply this to one of these bitmaps here. Let's move this out of the way, and let's take this Gem, and using the Distort tool, I can distort this bitmap. Notice that unlike my vector image, this gets quite pixilated if I exaggerate this distortion, and now let's select some text here. Notice I can also distort the text. This time, let's use the Menu command, Modify, Transform, Distort. I get the handles, and now I can click on any of those handles and drag to distort that text. Let's take the other end right there and distort it this way. Let me move some of these objects out of the way so we can see better. There's my new text. Let's now go back and click on the Distort tool. So, both the Distort tool and the Menu options are the same. When you select either transformation tool or menu command, Fireworks CS3 displays transform handles around the selected objects, so you place the pointer near a corner point and then drag to either rotate or, distort in this case, or skew. The skew actually is going to appear on the sides here, one of the side-handle options right there. Notice that I have my skew icon there. Fireworks is one of those tools where you need to really keep an eye out on the mouse cursor, and that gives you hints on what you can do. This cursor symbol here means move up or down, left or right. That's the rotate symbol. The skew symbol is an up or down arrow, like so. Now to accept the transformation go ahead and double-click inside the window, or you can also press the Enter key to apply all your changes. Notice that my handles disappear, and now I have just my typical four blue modify handles here. When working with multiple objects in a single document like I have here, you can use several techniques to organize these objects, so let me move on to the next movie and demonstrate these various ways of organizing your objects here on the canvas.
