Let me now say a few words about placing Fireworks graphics in Flash. You can place Fireworks graphics into your Flash files in a number of ways. Importing or copying and pasting a Fireworks PNG or ping file offers you the most control over how graphics and animations are imported into Flash. Although this gives you more control when importing or copying and pasting Fireworks images, you can also, rather than use a PNG file, export the file as a JPG, GIF, or SWF file from Fireworks and then import them into Flash. Now when Fireworks graphics are imported or copy and pasted into Flash, some attributes are lost such as Live Filters and Textures. You cannot import or copy and paste a contour gradient effect from Fireworks into Flash documents, in addition, Flash supports only solid fills, gradient fills, and basic strokes. I demonstrated each of these techniques in a previous movie in this tutorial, that was in the Creating Slideshows and Animations section, and the title of the movie was Using Fireworks Graphics and Flash, so see that movie for more details on these techniques, but basically, you're going to go into Fireworks, select your graphic object, choose Edit, Copy, and then move over to Flash and choose Edit, Paste and Center. Here you get the import Fireworks document. This is the main difference between importing or copying and pasting a PNG file versus one of the other file formats, is you'll get this dialog allowing you to import as a single flattened bitmap, or you can import a specific page in the Fireworks document. In this case, I don't have pages. I can insert into a new layer, or current frame as a movie clip. I have options for objects and text. I can import as bitmaps to maintain appearance, or keep all the paths editable for either objects or text. click OK, and notice that the graphic object is placed right there on the stage in Flash. Now, if you choose instead to File, Import to Stage, let's go ahead and choose the image. In this case this file appears to be part of a sequence of images. Do you want to import all of the images in the sequence? Let's choose No. Now, the difference here is, notice, for Import I can choose a specific page if I'm using multiple pages in that Fireworks document. So that's one advantage of importing versus copying and pasting into Flash. Now Fireworks provides excellent support for importing native Photoshop files. These are PSD files with a variety of options for retaining many aspects of the imported file. So let me now move on to the next movie and demonstrate some techniques for working with Photoshop and Fireworks together.
