Web designers are increasingly using Cascading Style Sheets, abbreviated CSS, to build Websites instead of using tables to build page layouts. CSS layer-based layouts are more flexible and provide added control over how Web pages are displayed. CSS layers lets you create style sheets or templates that define how different elements, such as text, headers and images, should appear on a page. With CSS you can control the layout of multiple Web pages all at the same time using external style documents. Many Web designers believe that CSS Websites are easier to build and modify and there's no doubt that CSS gives you capabilities that are not possible in table-based designs. For example, CSS layers can overlap and be stacked on top of one another. Content in tables cannot. In Fireworks the normal HTML output does not overlap. Now in support of the shift in Web design toward CSS-based layouts, Fireworks will let you export to CSS layers. Here in the export dialog, notice that one of the export options is CSS Layers. Notice that when you move that option to CSS Layers, the source here changes enabling you to set the source of those CSS layers. You can set the source to slices so that all slices are converted to CSS. You can use layers, the layers option, this exports all layers as CSS layers, or you can export all frames as CSS layers. Now, first Macromedia, when it owned Dreamweaver and Fireworks, and now Adobe, added numerous integration features to make it easy to move files and content between these two leading Web design applications. So let me now move on to the next set of movies and demonstrate in detail some of the more important of these features for working with Fireworks content in Dreamweaver.
