Creating Vector Graphics / Editing Paths Using the Path Panel pt. 2

Subtitles of the Movie

The next commands however, will have an effect on all of your selected vector objects, and that is the Move Points tool, where you can move it by a set number of pixels, both in the vertical and horizontal directions. Kind of a nice tool for let's say getting a very precise two-pixel movement up or down. Then we have the Rotate points. You probably won't see it on this object, but let's try this one, and if we rotate by 90 degrees, that will be an obvious change, then we have the Mirror points. I can choose a direction, Yes to mirror horizontal, No to mirrors vertical. Let's mirror horizontal, like that. Let's go ahead and mirror vertical, and the last one is the Fillet the points into rounded corner radius, a slight change on that one, so to see that change, let's undo the last two. You can see there's a little bit of a change there in each one. So there's the change for my first object, right here, the one to the left. There's the change, and now look right here into what was an octagon, and I'm going to add those rounded corners back. And the last set of tools here in the Path panel are for selecting objects, which is not related to the topic here in this movie, so I'll be covering some of those techniques later in this tutorial. So that'll wrap up this pretty thorough demonstration of the various ways of editing the paths of your vector graphics in Fireworks CS3. That'll also wrap up this section of the tutorial on working with your vector graphics in Fireworks. In this section, you've learned how to draw vector objects and you've also learned how to draw the various Auto Shapes that you find here in the Vector section of the Tools panel, these shapes down here, including the Arrow, Beveled rectangle, Chamfer rectangle, Connector line, donut, L-shape, pie, rounded rectangle, smart polygon, spiral, and star. Let me now move on to the next section of the tutorial, and that is creating bitmap graphics, where I'll cover how to work with bitmap graphics, how to create them, how to draw and paint bitmap objects, photo editing, retouching bitmaps, and much, much more.
