Continuing from the previous movie my review of the various options here in the Pop-up Menu Editor for creating and then editing your pop-up menus, I demonstrated options here in the Content and Appearance tabs previously. Here in the Appearance tab you can either use HTML for your appearance, or Image Styles, for both the Up State and the Over State. The Advanced tab, which is next, contains options that determine the cell dimensions, padding, and spacing, the cell border, width, and color, the menu delay and text indentation. My options for cell width are automatic, or in a set number of pixels. I usually choose automatic so that if I do change my cell padding and text indent, notice that here, my widths change automatically, as well as cell padding. You can see all these changes down here in the Preview window. However, Menu Delay, which is set to a default of 1,000 milliseconds, will not demonstrate down here. That's the number of milliseconds it will delay when the user moves their mouse off of the menu for it to collapse. Sometimes users will have trouble with pop-up menu here. They'll roll off the menu and it may be an accident, so you don't want the menu to collapse right away. So you can set a delay here. I recommend experimenting with values anywhere between 500 milliseconds and 2000 milliseconds, depending on the type of menu that you're creating. I also have options here for setting up Pop-up Borders, showing those borders or not, Border Widths, Shadow Colors, which is kind of interesting. That's the shadow color, right in there. I definitely don't recommend red if you're using a green pop-up menu. Probably blue is too light as well, as well as Highlight options. Now the final tab, the Position tab, contains options that determine the menu and sub-menu placement. The Menu setting, here at the top, places the pop-up menu relative to the slice. Remember my slice, back there on the Supplies text. It has some very nice presets with some icons there that 00:02:14 show you pictorially, what the option will do. Your options are to set your menu Lower, Down below to the Right of the slice, Below the slice, Above the slice, or Up and to the Right. Notice you can also set your X and Y values in a custom manner by typing in values there for how far you want the menu to be displaced from the slice, both in the X and Y dimensions. The Sub-menu Options down below places the pop-up sub-menu to the Right or Lower right of the Parent menu, or below it. The last option there is you can also place the sub-menu in the same position as the Parent menu. Now, depending on the design of the pop-up menu that you're creating, you may not use all of the tabs or all of the options in all of the tabs, but I recommend that when you're learning to create a couple of experimental pop-up menus and really explore the different settings and options here, being sure to occasionally click the Done button and then preview your work in a Browser. Notice that you cannot see your work here in the Preview panel of Fireworks. You'll need to go all the way over to File, Preview, and Browser, and then preview this file in your default browser. You can see that the two menus that I created here look quite different. So, in this case I probably want to go back and modify these two so they look more consistent to each other. But there you have a fairly in-depth demonstration of how to create and edit pop-up menus in Fireworks CS3. Let me now move on to the next movie and demonstrate how to create fairly sophisticated Flash-based slide shows, right here in Fireworks CS3, using the commands, Create Slideshow command here, off the main menu.
