Subtitles of the Movie
Now I'd like to share with you another simple editing tool that you can use inside of Premier Pro so that you can cut away extraneous footage and also use it as a really cool way to create quick cuts in between scenes or shots. Let's say you have a video of some relatives playing a video game called Rock Band. And you know, you want to show some close-ups of some of the people as they play the guitar or you want to cut to the drum and then you want to make your own music video. You can use a tool right here in our Tools Panel that looks like a little razor blade and look at that; how appropriate. It's called the Razor Tool. What this will do is trim or cut your footage in half wherever the current time indicator is in the footage. So I'll go ahead and click on this footage to select it and I'll click on the Razor Tool and then I'll click right on that line or, of course, I can click anywhere else that I'd like to. But I'm going to click on the line or near it and I'll move the current time indicator. I'll grab my Selection Tool now and show you that we have this piece of footage and this piece of footage and you see that little cut right in the middle. And I'll grab the tool here, the Move Tool or Selection Tool and I've moved that other guy out of the way. So here is Uncle Bob playing the guitar and then we're going to cut to Aunt Elaine on the drums and what we're going to do again is we're going to cut here and here and here and here, grab the Move Tool and we can show different people playing different instruments and have close-ups and you can do all kinds of cool stuff like this. So what happens is you see this piece of footage play back, then this one, then this one, then this one and you can even rearrange things. So I can grab this guy, move it over here, take this one, drag it down there, put this one here and the Razor Tool makes it really easy and fun to do this kind of editing. Once again, what I use the tool for is for showing close-ups, making quick shot changes so that if I have two people talking, I can cut to another shot where the person has a close-up, a reaction shot, a wide or medium shot so I can see both people talking again, another close-up, this person asks a question and that kind of thing. So you don't have to necessarily keep turning your camera on and off when you want to show different reaction shots. Just keep rolling and bring all your footage into Premier Pro, use the Razor Tool, cut the footage up and if you don't want a particular piece of this footage, simply click on it and delete it and then you don't have to worry about that part. Just click and drag another part that you want in its place. It's a really handy way to edit and it really makes life a lot easier. Now, by the way, you might notice how my footage is automatically just snapping right where it belongs. Well, that's what this little guy right here does for you. It allows you to turn Snapping on. Now, if you don't want it, just click here and now you can move it around and it will just stop moving wherever you let go of your mouse. But especially true when you're using the Razor Tool, snapping is going to be very instrumental so you don't have to worry about whether it's going to play right exactly where this piece of footage ends. The snapping ensures that. So this ends and this begins and this begins and so on and so forth. Snapping, Razor Tool, hand in hand. So that is yet another way you can edit your footage in Premier Pro to create content for your DVD.
