Subtitles of the Movie

For those of you who are familiar with Flash or any kind of programming, you'll recognize that an action is something that you can tell a button to perform so that when the end of particular action occurs, such as the end of a timeline is reached, the clip will know what to do next. So let's imagine this for a second. We put the DVD in and you press Menu 1 and this movie plays and it gets to the end. Then it stops and that's it. No menu comes up, nothing. The movie ends literally right here. It gives the viewer no recourse, no buttons to go to and all you really have to do is just press the Menu Buttons to go back to the very beginning or reinsert the disk. That's not a very good program. So what we have to do is we have to tell it what to do. So as you see here, I have my buttons and I have my timelines and I can also choose a timeline from the Project Pane, but you'll notice that we have over here in the Properties, these actions. We have an End Action Set and you see it here too and every time we choose something that has the ability to do something, we have an End Action. For example, when the menu appears, the End Action is set to stop, which is logical. You don't want the menu to show up and then the movie starts playing right away, although I have seen many cases where after a set amount of time, the movie will play anyway. So what you could do is click on this drop-down list and you can choose to specify a link, you can link back to here and you could choose other actions from the list. So we can say go to Chapter 1. So I'll go ahead and click on that and as you see here, the End Action changes. So once the menu appears, it's going to then go to Chapter 1. Typically this is not what I want, so I want to make it stop again. So I go back to the drop-down list and say Stop. I actually want you to stop. See? But let's say a movie plays and then you see that it says that there is no End Action Set. So it doesn't know what to do. We can go to the list and we can say link back here or we can return to the last menu. So the Pen Tool is selected from the menu and then the movie plays and then it's told to return to the last menu. So it's going to jump back over here. You can also, of course, use your pickwhip to choose actions if you have them available to you. But it's, of course, a lot easier to choose right from this list because it's really hard to choose an action with the pickwhip, especially when you're working from the menu itself. So definitely choose it from the drop-down list because in this particular case, the pickwhip isn't really as convenient as this drop-down list. So that's pretty much all there is to it really when it comes to setting an End Action. Just take your time and think logically as to what should happen at the end of each part of your DVD.
