Introduction / Mac & PC Conventions
Subtitles of the Movie
Even though the Adobe applications work very well as far as interchangeability between the Windows PC platform and the Mac, which means if I'm working on the Mac I can share my work with someone working on a Windows machine. There are some slight differences in how they work. For example, on a Macintosh you'll find the Preferences under the title of the application in the menu bar. For example, Encore, Preferences. On a Windows PC, you'll find the Preferences usually under the Edit menu. So when we get to the section about Preferences, don't forget, Mac guys, you're going to go here and the PC people are going to go here. Other things that you have to keep in mind are the shortcuts. Now, everybody does not have a two-button mouse, on a Mac specifically. So what happens is I'll say right click quite a bit. So when I say right click on something, people that only have a one mouse button on a Mac, you're going to Control click. So what you can do is you Control and you click and then you get the Contextual menu to pop up. Everyone else can simply right click to achieve the same thing. So once again, Control click to get the Contextual menu, which changes based on what area of the interface you're in. Alright, so another thing you have to worry about is the shortcuts for operations such as copying and pasting. On the Macintosh I'll say press Command C to copy. For Windows people it'll be Control C. So what I'll often say is alright guys. Press Command or Control C. So whichever one you're using, that's the one you're going to do. The Command key, by the way, for people on the Mac, is the one with the picture of the apple on it or that little squiggly box thing and who knows what that is. But that's what it is. That's the Command key. So once again, Command Control C and Command Control V to paste. That's what you'll hear. And one last thing; there's also the ability to press Alt or Option and I'll mention that as well when we have keyboard shortcuts that we have to deal with. So that's pretty much the main differences, disparities that we have when working between the Windows PC platform and the Macintosh platform when it comes to not just Encore, but many of the applications that you'll deal with.
