Interface / Folders

Subtitles of the Movie

Whenever you start working on a pretty large and complicated project, you're going to find that eventually you're going to want to sort those things out into folders. Fortunately, you can create folders very easily inside of the Project Panel and you can even nest them, which means you could place folders inside of other folders. So what I'm going to do is show you two ways to make folders very easily inside of the Project Panel. The first way, of course, is by right clicking in the panel itself, down here. So I'll right click, choose New, Folder. The New Folder Name Dialog Box appears and what I could do it give it something that makes sense. For example, Videos, Audio or whatever. So you have characters, for example, that you're working on. For example, a Batman DVD. You might want to put all the clips related to Batman himself in one category. Maybe another one for the Joker, another for the Tumbler, which is his car and that kind of thing. So you can arrange your clips based on the character and then you could just have a Batman folder and drag all those other categories inside of that one. So in this case I'm going to just call this one Movies and I can drag this QuickTime movie inside of it and let go when the field turns green like this and I see a little plus sign. Now I'll click here to create a new item and choose Folder from this list. So that's the second way to create folders and I'll call this one Audio, since I have an MP3 here. And once again, I'll click and move this until I see the field that I want highlight and let go. I can twirl these guys here to see the contents. So this one has the Output.mov, this one has the Theme Song and I can twirl that one to close it and twirl that one and I can make another folder to put them both in. So I can call this one Assets. As you can see, you can name your folders based on your own personal production cycle so that you always have a certain methodology to your workflow where you have an Assets Folder, a Videos Folder, an Audio Folder, Voiceover or whatever and then you can space that on the template that you create so you can always open this up with these folders are here and then you can simply drag things into them as you bring them in to the application. So what I can do now is click Audio, drag it right into Assets, drag Movies into Assets as well, twirl it down and now I have nested folders. If I want to, I can even make another folder and call it Voiceover, which of course would go into the Audio Folder. So I click on Voiceover and drag it inside of here. So now I have another nest in here. So I have Assets, Audio and Voiceover. Voiceover is inside of this folder. That's a really great way to stay organized and not have so much to look at when you're working on your projects inside of Encore.
