Adobe Encore CS3 Tutorials

Customization / Create Workspaces

Subtitles of the Movie

No two people work in exactly the same way, whether in a real office or on the computer. I'll give you a good example. My office is pretty neat. I'm looking currently at a three-foot tall Batman, a skull with a pirate hat, Godzilla and a knight in shining armor in my office. Whereas my wife's office looks like an accountant's office with paperwork everywhere. So I'm pretty much a neater person, but just don't tell her I said that. In Encore, you can create a workspace that fits your personal work style so that you can take things and put them wherever you want and then save that workspace under the name of your choosing. Let's say for example that we want to take the monitor and put that over here. And we'll take the projects and put them over here. Now I'll grab styles and put that down here. I'll take the flow chart and put it over here. And I'll just go ahead and grab some of these guys and slide them around. So I'm going to get rid of properties, I'll get rid of character and I'm going to get rid of project and I'll get rid of the layers and the library so I can see my flow chart, my menus and slideshows, for example. I can now go to the Window Menu, go to the Workspace category and then come over here where it says New Workspace. I can call it whatever I like, so I'll just go ahead and call it Flow Chart and click OK. So now when I go to the Window Menu and choose Workspace, I can see that Flowchart is the currently selected and new workspace. Here's a little dot indicating that this is the one we are currently working with. So if I go to Menu Design and I want to go back to my Flowchart, just Return to Workspace, choose Flowchart and the changes that you made are presented to you. So really, really nice to be able to do that because even though Encore provides you with a default, a Menu Design, a Navigation, Slideshow and Timeline Workspaces, it's nice to make your own because you might just want to focus on a task that's not in this list. Now, if you're no longer interested in keeping the Flowchart Workspace, you can go the Delete Workspace and you can also Reset any Workspace just in case you moved it around and accidentally got rid of something, for example, a panel, that you really wanted to keep there. Just choose Reset and the Workspace will return to the way it was. So let's go to Delete Workspace. I get a Delete Workspace Dialog Box. I can click here to drop-down the list and then, of course, you could find what you want. Now, you might be wondering why is the Flowchart not here? Because it's the one we're currently working in. So I'll cancel that. I will go to Workspace and choose Menu Design. Then when I return here to delete this workspace, it is now available. So keep that in mind. You can not delete a Workspace that you're currently working in. So now I can choose Flowchart, click OK and it is no longer available in the list. Also, one more thing. Your Workspace does not automatically go away if you're currently working in it, so you have to go back to the Workspace Menu and choose the one that you want to bring to the front. So once again, I suggest you make some Workspaces once you get very familiar with Encore. But don't worry. If you ever mess up you can always go to Workspace and Reset the Workspace to the way it was or choose default.
