Although Dreamweaver gained its reputation as an HTML editor it's actually much more than just a tool to create and edit HTML document. Dreamweaver serves just as well as a web application builder, FTP client, website manager or even as a website assets manager. So let me talk a little bit more about each of these capabilities. With Dreamweaver you can obviously quickly and easily design, develop, and maintain websites and web applications as they come from the same publisher Dreamweaver enjoys excellent integration with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Flash, and Adobe Contribute. Built for both designers and developers Dreamweaver capabilities for visually designing web pages are pretty much unmatched. Dreamweaver offers a choice of of working in an intuitive visual layout as I have here or in a more streamlined coding environment. The code views maturity as part of the Dreamweaver product, definitely shows in this CS4 version of Dreamweaver in which I'll be covering in more detail a little bit later as this tutorial progresses. Now web application is a website that contains pages with partly or entirely undetermined content. The final content of the page is determined only requests made by the visitors as the site is being viewed because the final content of the page varies from request to request based on the visitor's actions this kind of page is called a dynamic page. Dreamweaver with its support of MySQL databases, Javascript, VBScript, ASP.NET, PHP, ColdFusion and more makes it an excellent tool for building dynamic web pages. Through the assets panel which can be accessed via the window assets menu you can manage all of the various assets that are used in your sites including images, colors, URLs, flash assets, director Shockwave files, videos, javascript or VBScript, libraries and templates and much much more. Dreamweaver also excels as a website manager, a Dreamweaver site is actually a collection of all the files and assets in your website, you create webpages on your computer, upload them to a webserver and then manage them using Dreamweaver site management tools such as the files window which I have open here, there's also a link checker, an HTML tag validator and accessibility checker. By the way you can also edit and maintain websites that were created with tools other than Dreamweaver. I could continue listing more features and capabilities of Dreamweaver but this gives you a broad overview of the application. I'll be covering more highlights later in this tutorial, let me now move on to the next movie and review what is new and exciting in this CS4 version of Adobe Dreamweaver.
