Dreamweaver Workspace / Insert Bar / Tag Selector / PI

Subtitles of the Movie

Next, we get to the Insert Bar over here to the right, let me move that over there. The Insert Bar contains buttons for creating and inserting objects such as tables, Ap elements and images, right here is the Insert Bar this is a little bit different configuration than previous versions of Dreamweaver, but notice that I have in the Insert Bar various tabs here, common, layout, forms, data, one just for Spry elements as well as in context editing, texts and then one called favorites, you can kind of collect your favorite insert elements to have in this section, I use the Insert Bar quite frequently by default I'll leave this is the common tab there where you can add hyperlinks, email links, horizontal rules, named anchors, images, media date, server side it includes also another one I commonly use is the layout tab. Where I can insert DIV Tags, apDivs, Spry menu bars, accordions, tabbed panels, tables, insert row above and insert row below for working with tables. Down at the bottom of the interface is a very important element called the Tag Selector down here that lets you actually choose the underlying HTML tags that you won't see unless you move into split view or code view, notice that you can select various tags here very easily using the tag selector at the bottom, perhaps the biggest advantage here is you can select tags without having to leave design view. Like so, I'm just selecting that table cell or just the image. The Property Inspector which in the designer workspace by default is down here at the bottom can be opened up by double clicking on it or you can also choose Window Properties make sure there's a check next to the properties option, this is one of the most important interface elements in Dreamweaver, it's included in many of Adobe's products and Dreamweaver here is no exception in its importance, the Property inspector let's you examine and edit some of the most common properties for the current selected page elements such as text or an inserted object or image, notice that here, when I select the table I can edit table properties when I select an image I can modify image properties, selecting text lets me modify text properties, so you can see plainly that the contents of the Property Inspector vary depending on the element selected, I very strongly recommend to all my students that they keep the Property Inspector open, especially during those first few months in which you're learning Dreamweaver, you can hide the Property Inspector by clicking on that top border there, that dark gray colored border. Clicking on it once opens it and closes it in the toggle fashion, let me now move on to the next tutorial and review some of the other panels and windows in Dreamweaver CS4.
