Subtitles of the Movie
In the previous movie I demonstrated how to use the find and replace tool to find and replace text and HTML tags in an open document or across many files in a specified folder or even all the files in your local site root folder. In this movie I'm gonna demonstrate how to use the check spell command in the text menu here at the top of the interface. To spell check your open document unfortunately the check spelling command only works in the open document. You can't check the spelling in multiple documents, by default the spelling checker uses the US English spelling dictionary. However you can change this dictionary in the preferences window. Access the preferences window in windows under the edit menu. Edit preferences on Macintosh, the preference windows found under the Dreamweaver item in the upper left hand corner of the interface. In both operating systems access the general category at the bottom of the menu here is a spelling dictionary drop down. Choose a new language from the drop down, Danish, Dutch, British, English, Canadian English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese and Spanish and Swedish are default options here. To spell check the open document just choose text, check spelling, and Dreamweaver will automatically run through all of the words and sentences, paragraphs in your document and then give you suggestions on words that it finds maybe misspelled. Let's go through now and actually do a little practice from the content that I covered in the previous movie and we are gonna go up to edit and find and replace all the instances of Dreamweaver and purposely misspell them to Dreamweaver without the a there so lets go ahead and do a replace all. Notice that all of the words that it found are documented here in the search panel of the results group. So now let's test to make sure that spell check is working ok using text. Check spelling, and I should find a variety of misspelled Dreamweaver words here. So my options here are to take the misspelled word and add it to my personal dictionary that's probably only good if your finding that Dreamweaver found a word perhaps that's not already in the dictionary. And you want to add that word, in fact I think Dreamweaver may not be in the dictionary. Actually it is in the Dreamweaver dictionary its not in some of my other dictionaries, but lets say your using a technical term that's not in there. You can also choose to ignore this particular instance of the misspelled word, or you can ignore all the instances of the misspelled word. Lets go ahead and choose ignore all and notice that it tells me Dreamweaver has reached the end of the document, lets keep continuing to check from the start of the document. It found some other words that it didn't like and I am just choosing to ignore all of them. The other options are to change, did find some misspellings in there, are to change that individual word. Let's go back and do a spell check this time from the start and fix all those Dreamweaver misspellings. Reached the end of the selection again, lets click on yes and there is my Dreamweaver that's misspelled. I could either change this individual instance of the misspellings or I can change all. Which in this case is going to be much more efficient so lets click on change all. Says it has reached the end of the document. And now it found this surname that is misspelled, actually this is called, this is flicks here so lets add this to my personal dictionary and lets add web sites and ignore my path and lets add Sorenson and lets ignore these abbreviations here. App name, instance name, .flv they are all, immediately is misspelled so lets change that one, one time. Two column, let's accept its suggestion for two column and then once its done through everything it thinks is misspelled it will tell you that spell check is completed so click on OK. Now its important to note that does not necessarily mean there is no more misspelled words in this document. I may have added a misspelled word to my dictionary or I could be using a word in the wrong context such as I typed their car, t-h-e-r-e when I meant to type their t-h-e-i-r- however the spell check is very useful and will certainly, quickly eliminate obvious misspellings or typos. And even some basic grammatically errors, you will always want to proof read and double check all of your Dreamweaver documents and that will wrap up this section on the course on text. In this section you have learned how to add text to Dreamweaver how to use word, HTML files in Dreamweaver. How to format text with CSS verses HTML. How to format text with the property inspector and work with lists. You've also learned some tips and techniques for working with text and paragraphs. You now know how to find and replace text and also spell check all of the words in your open Dreamweaver documents.
