Dreamweaver Workspace / Zoom Tools
Subtitles of the Movie
Dreamweaver lets you increase or decrease the magnification level in the document window. This is also called the zoom level. Using the magnification, you can zoom in and check the pixel accuracy of graphics; you can also zoom in to select small items more easily or to design pages with small text. You can zoom out to help you design larger pages and see what you're doing. The zoom tools are only available in Design View, and they're down here at the base of the workspace. Here is the Zoom tool, and I always use this in conjunction with the Hand tool and the Select tool down there. The way that it works is you select the zoom tool and then click on the area that you want to zoom into. You can also double click on that Zoom tool icon to bring the zoom back to 100%. You can also drag a marquee around the area that you want to zoom into, like so. Once you're zoomed in, you'll use the Hand tool to move around the workspace at the Set Zoom Level so you can see things easily. You'll then use the Select tool to select different elements and items. Again, this makes it possible to work with very small images or small typefaces in Dreamweaver. You can also use the Alt key in conjunction with the Zoom tool to zoom back out again. Notice if I hold down the Alt key on my keyboard, the curser changes from a plus sign to a negative sign, indicating that I can zoom back out of my document. This is the same as many of the zoom tools and other Adobe products, such as Fireworks, Flash, and Photoshop. You can also use the drop-down menu right here to select a magnification level from the menu, 150%, 6%, and I can zoom all the way into 6400%. And again, double-click on the magnifying glass with the Zoom tool to bring it back to 100%. You can also type in a specified zoom percentage. Let's zoom in at 133%. Type in 133, press the Enter or Return key, and that brings you into the Zoom that you specified there in the box. You can also zoom in and out without using the zoom tool, by using keyboard shortcuts in the Windows operating system. Press the Control and the Plus keys simultaneously to zoom in, and the Control and Minus keys to zoom out. On the Macintosh operating system, this would be the Command Plus combination to zoom in, and Command Minus to zoom out. Very useful tools. So I'm just pressing down the Control key on my Windows machine here and pressing the Plus and Minus keys interchangeably to zoom in and out.
