The Director Workspace / The Cast Window pt. 2

Subtitles of the Movie

Now, there's actually two views of the Cast Window. Let's go ahead and open this up so we can see this a bit better. This is Thumbnail View. I generally tend to work in Thumbnail View but there will be times when you'll want to work in list view and you can change back and forth by clicking on the Cast View Style button here in the upper left-hand corner. The List View gives you more information about the cast member. Notice that this is the position number in the Cast Window. The asterisk here indicates whether that cast member is currently used as a Sprite on the Stage. There is the script type. That's a behavior. The type of cast member; Transition, Bitmap, Flash Component, QuickTime, script. Notice you can also organize your cast members based on these categories: when modified, the type, script, in use, it gives you the number in order of the cast position, thumbnail gives you a nice Thumbnail View of it's a graphic. The icons here indicate what kind of cast member. Here are some audio cast members. There's a text cast member, that little a there. I have two QuickTime movies here. Notice that I can also move and arrange items in the Cast Window here when I have Thumbnail View enabled. There's my two QuickTime movies. Here are two transitions. There's a linked graphic right there. That's what that, actually that's a QuickTime movie and it's, they're all linked notice. That's what that little folded upper right-hand edge of that paper indicates. The little paintbrush indicates bitmap graphics. There's a script, the little gear there. These two are actually components that I've added from the, a button and a checkbox that's built in that I've added from one of the Director libraries. Now, there's another button here in the upper left-hand corner that allows you to choose a cast. You can actually have more than one Cast Window open at a time. In fact, you can have more than one Cast Window per Director project. In fact, you can also create a new cast. For example, maybe you want to put all your music in one cast member. It can be internal or external. If it's internal, then it's loaded and a part of this Director, dir file. If it's an external file, that's kept as an external cast member file that you'll need to keep with you when you're working on your Director project. Now, the Control Panel is also a very important component that you'll use all the time primarily to play back your movies, but there are some other functions and cabilities here that I want to go over. So let me now move on to the next movie and review in more detail the Director Control Panel.
